Canaan Honey Update
Our honey shop continues to be open every Thursday from 9 - 5pm. We love seeing you all.
|
We are incredibly excited about the upcoming birth our our wee Man - probably Thursday 29 February - the shop will be closed that day - please check our opening hours on Facebook or our website which we will update.
|
Michael is enjoying being out in the great outdoors mowing the lawns around the city. Melissa is enjoying being more present in the shop on Thursdays since going on maternity leave.
|
We are really enjoying being able to work in the shop together. Because Melissa is on maternity leave it does mean that if you are unable to come to the shop on a Thursday, you can just touch base with us to arrange an alternative time. We are happy to open the shop by appointment for anyone.
|
The hope is with a little bit more time on hand, Melissa will keep you all updated regularly with some bee tips and tasty recipes.

Bee Friendly Garden.
Due to being a little bit slower while pregnant, the garden is looking a wee bit wild. But the exciting thing is the bees love our garden. If the garden is orderly or wild the bees find the flowers - a good source of nectar and pollen.
|
Cosmos and Zinnia seedlings are continuing to pop up in the garden. They are a great late summer seed. Both attract the bees to your flower beds. With any luck the great warm temperatures will be here into March and this will keep the flowers flourishing.

Banana Honey Ice cream
Our Banana Honey Ice cream recipe is a delicious dairy and sugar-free dessert that includes honey as its sweetener. It is quick and easy, able to be prepared in just 10 minutes.
|
- 5-6 frozen bananas
- 1-2 tbsp liquid honey
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp carob powder
- 1 tbsp hot water
- Optional extras: vanilla essence chopped nuts, frozen berries, sunflower seeds.
- Sit the unpeeled bananas, two at a time, in a shallow dish of hot water for a minute.
- Remove the skins and cut into rings.
- Place all the chopped bananas into a food processor.
- Blend all the remaining ingredients together in a small bowl and pour over the bananas.
- Process all ingredients for a few minutes until well blended.
- Pour mixture into a small serving bowl and put in the freezer.
- This dessert can be used within an hour, but can be stored for longer if preferred.
Note: It is okay to replace the carob with another tbsp of cocoa powder if you don't have any carob in the pantry.

Bee Keepers Diary
We have lots of last years honey still in storage. Enough for a good few months in the shop. Then we plan to purchase honey from local beekeepers and continue to keep the shop open, especially with Melissa's help.
Our hive numbers have reduced enough so we have them all in our backyard. A couple have 4 boxes of honey which is impressive to see. I plan to harvest and extract including some comb honey in the next few weeks. I need to make sure I have anti-varroa strips in them ASAP.
|
It is a challenge to find the time to look after the bees as well as working my new lawn mowing job, so I'm glad I have downsized. I'm really looking forward to extracting again.
